Troubleshooting
The most common issues we see, with what to try first. If none of these match what you're hitting, jump to Get help — we'd rather hear about it than leave you stuck.
My AI assistant says the tool isn't available
The tool might be turned off for your account, or the underlying recipe needs a refresh on our side. First check Tool Management in Xvantage to confirm the tool is enabled. If it is, restart your AI client (close and reopen). Still stuck? Open a support ticket — this is usually a 5‑minute fix for us.
Responses are really slow
This is usually your AI model, not the MCP server. Try switching to a faster model like Claude Haiku or GPT‑4o Mini for simple questions. Multi‑step prompts take longer because the AI is calling several tools in sequence.
I pasted the URL but no Xvantage tools show up
Double‑check the URL was pasted exactly — no extra spaces at the start or end, no line breaks. Regenerate it from the Xvantage app if you're unsure. Some tools require a full restart after adding a new MCP server, not just a reload.
A tool runs but returns no data
Usually a prompt specificity issue — try adding a customer name, order number, date range, or SKU. "Show invoices" won't narrow enough; "show unpaid invoices for Acme in the last 30 days" will. Also confirm the tool has the data scope it needs in Tool Management.
The AI is making things up / hallucinating
First check whether the AI actually called the Xvantage tool or answered from its own knowledge — most AI clients show a tool‑use indicator. If it skipped the tool, be explicit: "Use the Xvantage invoice tool to find…" forces the right call. The Prompt library has more patterns for this.
I get different answers in different chats for the same question
AI models are probabilistic — slight variation is normal. What matters is whether the underlying data is correct. If the tool returns consistent data but the summary differs, that's expected. If the tool itself returns different data, open a support ticket.
